60+ Days In

Amazing as it sounds, at least to me, Hallett Philanthropy started just a little bit over six weeks ago. In that time, I have learned so much about myself, and even more about owning a company.

My first realization is how fortunate I am to have such great relationships with clients. Of the 13 opportunities at the start of Hallett Philanthropy, 12 have materialized. I’m beyond humbled yet appreciative that people feel as though I can be helpful to them. I have always believed the first responsibility is to ensure clients receive more value than what they are paying for. Maybe this is a small sign that philosophy is the correct one.



On the technical side of owning a company, I’ve been surprised at some of the things I have to think - and worry - about. Growing up, my father owned his own company. While there were lots of dinner conversations away from his business, there were a number of nights where dad‘s daily professional life entered into our table conversations. That “distant stare” during dinner my father sometimes expressed I now more fully understand. I worry about things outside of my control. From cash flow to business development to the amount of time I have with clients to the responsibility of providing for my family, they all carry an extra burden when you actually own the entity.



With all of that said, I’m having a ball. I love it. And I look forward to the next 60 days and the next 60 after that. As to what will come after that is still unknown, and I am looking forward to that as well. Hurray for new opportunities.
