Pride in Being Part of the Non-Profit Industry

I read a great article from the conversation.com website about how non-profits have changed during Covid-19.  In short order, the article discussed how non-profits have become more lean and efficient. At the same time, they have changed the way they do business due to restrictions on face-to-face meetings and other in-person opportunities. In addition, the article discussed how leaders and staff have gone that extra mile, giving extra of themselves to make their non-profits even more effective. Sacrifices included longer hours, finding an additional mental tenacity to deal with change, and maintaining a flexible outlook that is still somewhat positive for the future.

Having worked in this industry for more than two decades, I think of those aspects as the hallmark of who we are as an industry. But maybe COVID-19 has brought this forward into a new public light. If you work in a non-profit,  I hope you are as proud of what our industry is trying to accomplish as I am. We all play a part in helping others. We are many times, the catalyst or link to those who want to help but need us to make that help possible. No one is saying any non-profit has gotten it perfect…but philanthropy can solve many problems and is a connection for many people to feel as if they’re part of the fight. I’m proud to be a very, very small part of that equation.
